Lemon Pound Cake With Lemon Icing.

A most straight forward cake, called pound cake in the olden days because a pound of this and a pound of that were added to make it when you want to have some cake with your morning coffee or in the afternoon.

Chewy Tahini Squares...Different Cookie!

U ntil now, people unfamiliar with Tahini may not know that it can also be used as a sweet.  In one of my posts I have written about how to made a Tahini dip, or having plain Tahini and honey or jam on toast in the morning for breakfast, well this time I am using Tahini as an ingredient to make a sweet....

A Delicious Desert For Warm Days....

Image
A delicious dessert for warm days is made of thick Greek yogurt, fresh cream, a sauce, and all sorts of berries. My friend Sonia Peronaci, founder and owner of the famous Italian food blog site www.giallozafferano.it presented this recipe during August into translatable Italian and I would like to share it with all my English speaking friends around the world. Here goes...

Three Minutes Afte Cake Came Out Of The Oven. Decorated Cake!! T oday is Sunday. A perfect day to bake a cake. I shall share with you one that was  prepared by The Delicious Sophie Dahl in one of her TV shows. Doughnut Puffs-----Loukoumades

Image
Sorry for the lousy picture I forgot to take one when they were ready to serve. D oughnut puffs are classical 50's and 60's sweets which are not very much eaten now-a-days because they are very sweet but they are delicious. A soft and sticky dough containing lots of fresh yeast is deep fried by the teaspoonful to form puffed up crispy hollow golden yellow balls and by adding honey, wall nuts and cinnamon, explode in your mouth  Very high in calories! But deeeeelicous...eaten in very special occasions once or maximum twice a year....

Chocolate Fudge Millefeuille Concoction...Also Easy And Quick

Y esterday Sunday evening, we were watching the Greek elections on TV, all super markets were closed and suddenly we all had an urge to eat sweet. So I thought of something that we could use from what we had on hand between our pantry and the deep freezer and it went like this:

Cooked Apple Dessert...Quick And Delicious

H i everybody! Yes I know I've been away for quite some time and that is because I was ill with a bad version of the flu. I simply had a Broncho-Pneumonia on both sides.  High fever, chills the whole works.  Gees it sure is a very long time since I fell so sick. Anyway I believe I'm fine now since I felt strong enough to made a nice dessert with a couple of apples I noticed no one was eating ... so instead of letting them spoil I made this dessert using the apples and spices we have...

Samali.....One Of The Nicest East Europen Sweets Made With Semolina

Image
Hello again everybody. I am writing this post to apologize for omitting the much needed SYRUP to be poured over the sweet as soon as it comes out of the oven when it is hot. Please go to November 7th 2011 post for the full recipe. I received an anonymous comment (although I would have enjoyed meeting the person) about having forgotten to include the syrup in my recipe. By this I am sure glad that at least somebody is reading these babies! Thanks for your patience Stelio

Typical Greek Cookies Made For The Christmas Holidays

Image
I don't like sweets that are too sweet and syrupy similar to the ones made in North Greece and Turkey with syrup drooling all over the place where your throat burns from excess sugar.  On the other hand I love cookies with the back-taste of butter made from ewe's milk. These cookies are more or less similar to the European Butter Shortbread cookies. These are the Greek Kou - ra - bi- edes. (ĪšĪæĻ…ĻĪ±Ī¼Ļ€Ī¹ĪĪ“ĪµĻ‚) and can be found in commerce and homes which make them only during the Christmas Holidays....

Pistachio Baklava - Defferent Manner

Samali Politiko....Another Byzantine Sweet (Corrected)

Image
S emolina is used in many sweets here in Greece the same way as it was used a thousand years ago in Byzantium. We have already talked about The Byzantine Empire which was basically the Eastern Roman Empire : Meat torpedoes with garlic and mint. My post March 30th 2011....
